This post will make you feel better about your mental abilities (unless you're me)

Being in Nags Head, North Carolina, with one of my best friends from college was wonderful.  Getting there?  Not so much.

I flew out to Virginia on Friday morning with the intent of meeting Michelle at her beach house that night.  Little did I know that I had booked my flight to the wrong place.  We still have no idea who made the error (though, Michelle, I'm pretty sure it was probably me,) but through some miscommunication, I booked my flight into Roanoke instead of Norfolk.  This was pretty unfortunate since Roanoke is approximately 370 miles from Nags Head.

That's the back story on how I ended up driving in a tiny compact (the rental place had given my car away by the time I got there) through the backwoods of Virginia in the middle of the night for seven hours. It wouldn't have taken so long except that I got a little lost, and also there were not a lot of freeways.  It was pretty crazy.  It actually looked quite pretty, but since it was really dark, it's hard to say for sure.

Delta wouldn't let me change my ticket home, so I called Darren and told him all I wanted for Christmas was a ticket from Norfolk to Salt Lake City on Monday (so I didn't have to make the drive that morning) and never to hear about this incident again.  He did try to bring up the $500 the ticket cost one time, but he stopped pretty quickly when I asked him if we really wanted to go Christmas shopping for me.  He's a good husband.

The weekend was fun, though, very relaxing.  I got into Nags Head at about 2 a.m., and we stayed up talking until 3 or 4.  Then, we got up at 6:30 to do the 8K.  It was a piece of cake because Michelle had bronchitis, so we just did the brisk walk thing.  We didn't set any records (the winner of the 8K in the women's division did it in 29 minutes--what?), but we had a great time.  And, it was so worth it to honor her dad, Tony.

The rest of the weekend was spent hanging out at the beach, reading books and eating out.  Very nice.

It was a great break, and I was thrilled to see the kids when I got home.  The only downside was that Darren spoiled them by playing games with them for hours, taking them to see Puss in Boots, etc.  Let's hope they aren't going to expect that kind of treatment from me!

I think Addison was the only one who had a hard time.   We tried face-timing it Sunday afternoon, but she just screamed that she wanted me to "be here, mommy, be here," and then refused to look at the screen.  The iron will on that one!  I know for sure she inherited my stubbornness, let's just hope she didn't inherit my geography skills.
