Proud to be a Farmingtonite/Farmingtonian

Just a quick note about today, and one that will probably shock anyone who is used to my smart aleck blog!

We got to church, and they stood up to announce that because of the threat of high winds that night, we would only have sacrament meeting.  Then, we would head home, change and meet to help everybody clean up debris to avoid further damage.  Our bishop does such a great job of inspiring us all to want to do better.  He stood up and said, "Our church is not just a church of faith but also of good works."

We went home to assess our own situations and check with our neighbors to see who needed help and then met back at the church in boots and jeans and coats and got the job done.  There were about 200 people and quite a few trucks and trailers, and it was amazing what we got done.  As Rulon Homer said, it was hands down one of the best church meetings we have ever had!

We drove around to the homes that had trees piled out front and loaded our trailer.  We also had men with chainsaws for trees that had fallen on people's houses, and those were cut apart and loaded into trucks.  They had opened all of the dumps in the area as well as the sewage plant to accept green loads, and the lines were crazy long.  Everyone had turned out to help their neighbor and clean up the mess.  I saw giant piles from several huge pine trees (in one case eight 35-year-old pine trees) cleaned up in less than an hour with all those people and all those trucks.  It was honestly very inspiring to see everyone so willing to help and also to see the amazing transformation our little city underwent in those few hours.  It had been a complete disaster area, and by that evening, everything was clean and tidy and hauled away.  Amazing.

Anna said that they had done the same thing in Bountiful, and I ran into people I knew while out and about (like Ben, who was right next to us at the dumping site.)  It was incredible to see what was accomplished.
