All morning Addison has been carrying a nutcracker around saying, "This is my creepy guy. Look, he talking." Then she furiously pumps the handle up and down to move his mouth.
I don't know why it's so funny to me that she refers to him as her creepy guy, but it reminded me of when Alex was about 2 1/2 or 3. She used to call people humans which probably should have been our first clue that she would love animals over everything else. Whenever we went to playgrounds, she would approach the other kids and say, "Hello, little human. Will you play with me?"
In other news, we watched Megan's kids today while she went in for an ultrasound. Good news--little Ruby Sue is healthy as can be. I know her name's not really Ruby Sue, but I think as an homage to Christmas Vacation that's what I'm going to call her.
It was the easiest babysitting job I've ever had, and I don't believe a word Megan tells me about those children. Wilkes slept for almost three straight hours and had to be woken up to go home, and Lucy and Talmage quietly played Little People the whole time. Piece of cake.
Seriously, those cheeks. Do you think I could convince Megan to give him to me?
Other exciting events included Uncle Scott showing up from Birmingham unannounced and losing Alex after school. Apparently she missed the bus and decided to just walk to Aunt Kate's rather than alerting the school. We were about 2 minutes away from calling the police when Kate called to let us know where she was. I attribute 90% of my gray hairs to that child.
Alex and I had a fun evening shopping for Christmas presents for her dad and siblings, and I was impressed that she put so much time and money into getting just the perfect gift for everybody. It was sweet to see her being so thoughtful. We finished the date off at Panda Express and then Deseret Book for pie.
Then, we all headed to Heather's for her Christmas party. Addison was a little nervous about Santa, but once she figured out that he had candy, she was more than happy to sit on his lap. Maybe I should be worried? Henry could not contain his excitement, and I was a little concerned that he would wet his pants. He asked for an iPad. I don't know if Santa's really that nice.
And, that's what we consider a successful day during the crazy holiday season. Well, maybe not successful, but eventful at least.
